Employee Immigration
Sponsored Positions
In Qatar, accepting a job offer doesn’t mean you can begin work immediately. Unless you are a Qatari citizen, employment requires sponsorship. This can come from the Qatar Foundation, which sponsors GU-Q’s work in Qatar or from an individual’s family. Some of Georgetown University in Qatar’s (GU-Q) positions are sponsorship-eligible and some are not. This distinction will be made clear in the job posting.
Non-sponsored Positions
In order to be considered for a non-sponsored role, a candidate must be sponsored by a family member, such as a husband or parent. Men are ineligible to work on family sponsorship unless they are a student and are working part-time (for a maximum of 20 hours a week).
In both instances, there are steps that need to be taken so that the new employee is legally eligible to work.
